Rwanda moves to bring Formula 1 back to Africa

Rwanda is pushing to return Formula 1 to African soil, with reports framing the country as a rising sports host three decades after the 1994 genocide. Spanish sports daily Marca highlights Rwanda's broader strategy of attracting top events, noting cyclist Tadej Pogacar's links to the country and its staging of Champions League-associated football occasions, alongside its bid for a Grand Prix. Commentators see sport as central to Rwanda's effort to rebrand internationally.

Why now: News that Rwanda could host a Grand Prix and host more global sports events has revived debate about Africa's absence from the F1 calendar and Rwanda's image-building.
