Mind Robotics, a secretive robotics startup spun off from electric vehicle maker Rivian, has named Doug Field as its president. Field previously served as a vice president of special projects at Apple, where he was regarded as a de facto leader of the company's car project, and has held senior engineering roles across the auto and tech industries. His appointment is seen as a significant hiring coup for the young robotics firm.

Why now: A high-profile executive from Apple and the automotive world joining a secretive Rivian spinoff signals the startup's ambitions and draws attention to its previously low-profile plans.
