Burbank Airport workers picket new terminal over retail jobs
Original: Burbank Airport workers picket on first day at new terminal to demand that Marshall Retail Group offers to retain all existing retail workers
Workers at Hollywood Burbank Airport began picketing on the opening day of the airport's new terminal, calling on retail operator Marshall Retail Group to commit to retaining all existing retail employees. The action was organized with UNITE HERE Local 11, the labor union representing hospitality and airport workers in Southern California. Union members are pressing the company to make retention offers a condition of operating concessions at the terminal.
Why now: The new terminal's opening puts existing retail workers' jobs at risk, prompting union-led protests on day one.
