Aspens 'Remember' Past Drought in Their Leaves
Original: Aspens 'Remember' Past Drought in Their Leaves | Newswise
Researchers report that aspen trees show lasting changes in their leaves that reflect past drought conditions, suggesting the trees carry a form of memory of earlier water stress. The finding, announced via Newswise, adds to growing scientific interest in how plants retain signals from environmental stress and how that could shape forest responses to climate change.
Why now: It offers new insight into how trees adapt to drought, a timely concern as climate change intensifies water stress on forests.
