Delia Ramirez introduces bill to abolish Department of Homeland Security
Original: Delia Ramirez bill to abolish DHS
Illinois congresswoman Delia Ramirez has introduced legislation to abolish the Department of Homeland Security. The proposal would dismantle the federal agency created after the September 11 attacks, which oversees immigration enforcement, border security and disaster response through FEMA. Reaction is split, with progressive backers calling DHS unaccountable and abusive, while critics label the bill unrealistic and politically extreme.
Why now: A sitting member of Congress pushing to eliminate a major federal agency is a provocative stance amid ongoing fights over immigration enforcement.
