MLB playoffs won't settle the salary cap debate
Original: David vs. Goliath MLB playoffs won't prove anything about a salary cap -- even if both sides will say they do
With the MLB playoffs featuring matchups between big-spending teams and lower-payroll clubs, both sides of the salary cap argument are expected to claim the results prove their point. The argument notes the playoffs will not actually demonstrate anything about the need for a cap, even as league and union voices spin the outcomes to support their positions ahead of future labor talks.
Why now: The playoffs pairing high-payroll and low-payroll teams have revived the recurring debate over whether MLB needs a salary cap.
