Microsoft's Xbox has announced a new division called Xbox Labs, tasked with exploring AI-assisted game development. Coverage, including a report by Kotaku, notes the announcement notably avoids using the term 'AI' anywhere in its messaging, despite the team's brief centering on AI-coded game technology. The unusual phrasing has drawn attention, with observers reading it as a deliberate choice to avoid backlash around AI in gaming.
Why now: Xbox quietly launched an AI-focused team while conspicuously avoiding the term AI, which people find telling amid gaming industry tensions over AI.
