Progressive Democrat Calls for Abolishing Homeland Security
Original: Don’t Stop at ICE, Says Progressive Dem: Abolish the Department of Homeland Security https:// lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/7690
A progressive Democrat is calling not just for eliminating ICE but for abolishing the entire Department of Homeland Security. The argument is drawing attention in debates over immigration enforcement, with supporters saying the post-9/11 department has grown into an unaccountable enforcement apparatus, while critics see the proposal as politically extreme and unrealistic in Congress.
Why now: Immigration enforcement under DHS is a flashpoint in current US politics, and a sitting lawmaker calling for the whole department's abolition is a striking escalation.
