Salazar wins Colombia's president's endorsement after immigration split with Trump
Original: Salazar picks up Colombia president’s endorsement after breaking with Trump on immigration
US Representative Maria Elvira Salazar has received the endorsement of Colombia's president after publicly breaking with Donald Trump on immigration policy. The Florida Republican, whose Miami-area district includes a large Colombian-American community, has drawn attention for challenging her party's hardline stance. The endorsement highlights how her position is resonating with Colombian voters and drawing a reaction from Bogotá.
Why now: Her public split with Trump on immigration and the subsequent endorsement from Colombia's president are unusual and politically significant for a Republican congresswoman.
