Crypto thieves selling hardware wallets with hidden eSIM chips

Original: 🪤 Crypto thieves sell hardware wallets with secret eSIM | heise online 「 They haven’t touched the Secure Element chip at

Heise online reports that thieves are selling tampered hardware wallets containing a covert eSIM chip. The attackers do not touch the Secure Element, which stays secure; instead, an extra chip intercepts the data passing from the chip to the device's screen, presumably forwarding it to the attackers. The case shows that even hardware wallets can be compromised in transit.

Why now: Crypto users are alarmed that hardware wallets sold as secure can be bugged with hidden eSIM modules before purchase.
