Alexander Zverev to end year as world number one

Original: zverev

Alexander Zverev will finish the tennis season as world number one after Carlos Alcaraz's latest loss, per BBC. In Brazil, attention also centres on Alcaraz being criticised by a former player over comments in an on-court exchange, with 'me respeita, velho' — 'respect me, old man' — circulating widely. The ranking shake-up is drawing reaction across several countries.

Why now: Zverev reaching year-end world number one after Alcaraz's loss is a major tennis story trending globally.
