The red admiral (Vanessa atalanta), a migratory butterfly, is drawing attention online. Each year some individuals travel north to Central Europe from the south, and in autumn many make the return journey. Nature observers are sharing sightings of the distinctive black-and-orange insect, noting its seasonal movements across the continent.
Why now: It is autumn migration season, so people are spotting and sharing sightings of red admirables returning south.
