Mountain rescue collects 700 kilos of rubbish from glacier
Original: bergwacht
Germany's mountain rescue service, the Bergwacht, gathered around 700 kilograms of waste from a glacier, according to the Merkur newspaper. Among the items recovered were several finds now being investigated by police. The large-scale clean-up highlights the growing problem of litter left in alpine terrain and the effort required to remove it from fragile glacial environments.
Why now: The unusually large haul of rubbish and the police involvement in some of the finds are drawing public attention.
