Gaza residents salvage steel from ruins to survive
Original: Gaza Humanitarian Crisis: Palestinians make a living from collecting steel from rubble of destroyed buildings
In Gaza, Palestinians are scraping out a living by collecting steel and other scrap from the rubble of buildings destroyed in the war. With jobs scarce and aid limited, men comb devastated neighbourhoods pulling rebar from collapsed structures to sell. The practice highlights both the scale of destruction and the deepening humanitarian and economic crisis facing residents.
Why now: Ongoing conflict in Gaza keeps attention on the humanitarian and economic desperation of its residents.
