Florida Republican wins presidential endorsement — from Colombia
Original: Florida Republican running for re-election snags presidential endorsement — from Colombia
A Florida Republican running for re-election has received an endorsement from Colombia's president, an unusual cross-border boost in a US congressional race. The endorsement is drawing attention because foreign leaders rarely weigh in on American elections, and it is unclear whether the backing will help or complicate the candidate's campaign. Details of how the endorsement came about have not been widely reported.
Why now: A foreign head of state endorsing a US congressional candidate is highly unusual, making the story notable during election season.
