Secret agreement ends Jasper Ocean Terminal port plans
Original: Secret agreement effectively ends Jasper Ocean Terminal plans
A confidential agreement has effectively ended long-running plans for the Jasper Ocean Terminal, the proposed bi-state port facility on the Savannah River that Georgia and South Carolina had jointly pursued for more than a decade. The project, intended to ease congestion at the Port of Savannah, had already stalled amid funding and jurisdiction disputes. Details of the agreement and what it means for the Jasper County port site remain unclear.
Why now: The reported secret deal resolves, or kills off, a decades-long bi-state port dispute that local officials and residents have followed closely.
