Iran's ambassador declines to shake hands with Queen Letizia
Original: embajador
Iran's ambassador to Spain again declined to shake hands with Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia during the annual hand-kissing ceremony held on Spain's National Day, October 12. Spanish and international media are covering the repeated gesture, which reflects the Iranian diplomat's practice of avoiding physical contact with women, drawing renewed attention to protocol and cultural differences at the royal event.
Why now: The repeated refusal of a handshake with Spain's royal women at the October 12 National Day ceremony is generating media attention.
