WHO welcomes UN political declaration on pandemic preparedness
Original: WHO welcomes adoption of United Nations political declaration on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response
The World Health Organization has welcomed the adoption of a United Nations political declaration on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. The declaration commits UN member states to strengthening global systems for detecting and responding to future health emergencies, and represents a high-level political endorsement of coordinated pandemic planning. It follows years of calls, intensified by the COVID-19 crisis, for firmer international commitments on epidemic readiness and cooperation.
Why now: The UN's formal adoption of a pandemic preparedness declaration is a significant milestone in global health governance that WHO has publicly endorsed.
