Phreak.ing launches an internet-based phone switch
Original: Phreak.ing – Internet Phone Switch
Phreak.ing is a project offering an internet phone switch, drawing comparisons to the old practice of phone phreaking, where hobbyists explored and manipulated telephone networks. The site presents itself as a modern take on that concept, letting users experiment with telephony over the internet. It has drawn attention on Hacker News, where readers are discussing what it does and its connections to telecom history.
Why now: The project's nod to phone phreaking and hands-on telephony experimentation makes it a curiosity for the Hacker News technical audience.
