Chris Bowen mocked for falling asleep at pre-COP climate event
Original: 'Beyond farcical’: Chris Bowen mocked for nodding off at pre-COP climate event
Australia's Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen is being ridiculed after apparently nodding off during a pre-COP climate event. Critics have called the moment 'beyond farcical', arguing it undermines confidence in the seriousness of official climate negotiations ahead of the COP summit. Supporters may see it as trivial, but the clip has fuelled mockery and debate about ministerial commitment to climate policy.
Why now: A senior climate minister appearing to sleep at a climate gathering is an embarrassing, highly shareable moment just before COP.
