A German developer is drawing attention for building a federated professional networking platform single-handedly and charging a subscription of 21.42 euros per month. Commenters note that a few years ago such a project would have sounded like a joke, since it previously required a whole team with deep experience in protocols and cryptography for signed messages. The discussion centres on how modern open-source tooling now allows one person to ship what once took a company.
Why now: People are struck that a single developer can now build federated, cryptographically secured social software that once needed a full team.
