Feds Used Fake Cell Towers to Hunt Don Lemon's Producer
Original: Feds got warrants to use fake cell towers to hunt down Don Lemon's producer
Federal investigators obtained warrants to use stingray devices — fake cell towers that track phones — while pursuing a producer who worked with news anchor Don Lemon. The report raises questions about how law enforcement deploys cell-site simulation technology and the extent of warrants covering its use against individuals connected to journalists.
Why now: New reporting on government surveillance tools being used against someone tied to a prominent journalist is fueling privacy and press freedom concerns.
