Israel reports drop in math and computer science enrollment
Original: Amid AI shifts and war, Israel sees drop in math and computer science student enrollment
Enrollment in math and computer science programs in Israel is falling, according to a Times of Israel report. The drop is attributed to the ongoing war and to uncertainty around artificial intelligence, which may be steering students away from technical fields. The trend raises concerns about the country's future tech workforce, a sector long central to Israel's economy.
Why now: The war and rapid AI-driven changes to the job market are prompting debate over why fewer Israeli students are choosing technical degrees.
