Light pollution and wildfire smoke dim the night sky
Original: Light pollution, wildfire smoke threaten our view of the stars
Light pollution and smoke from wildfires are increasingly obscuring the night sky, making it harder for people to see the stars. Reports highlight how urban artificial lighting and growing wildfire activity are combining to degrade visibility of celestial objects, raising concerns among astronomers, stargazers and environmentalists about the loss of dark skies.
Why now: Growing wildfire activity and expanding urban light pollution are increasingly erasing the stars from view, prompting public concern.
