Google's new Googlebook laptops will ship with unlockable bootloaders, and root support via Magisk is expected. The company has published an official support page explaining how to unlock the bootloader, with a process similar to that used on Pixel phones: users enable OEM unlocking in Developer Options and then run the unlock command. Enthusiasts and custom-ROM users are welcoming the openness, which is rare for laptops.

Why now: Unlockable bootloaders and official root support on consumer laptops are unusual, exciting the modding and privacy community.
