PS5 now runs physical PS2 discs via AI-built emulator

Original: PS5 can now run physical PS2 game discs with vibe-coded emulator https:// fed.brid.gy/r/https://metro.co .uk/2026/10/12/

A newly developed emulator, reportedly built largely with AI-assisted coding, allows the PlayStation 5 to read and run physical PlayStation 2 game discs. The development suggests Sony's newer console could open its back catalogue far beyond the official selection, and gamers are discussing what it means for backwards compatibility and preservation of older titles.

Why now: The novelty of an AI-coded emulator unlocking PS2 discs on PS5 is striking to gamers interested in backwards compatibility and game preservation.
