UK ministers reportedly cutting heat pump subsidies to fund defence
Original: “Ministers preparing to slash heat pump subsidies to fund defence spending.” To heck with the environment we want war! #
Ministers are reportedly preparing to cut heat pump subsidy schemes, with the savings redirected toward increased defence spending. The move has drawn criticism from climate campaigners, who argue the government is sacrificing emissions-reduction commitments at a time when heating accounts for a large share of household carbon output. Supporters of the shift point to growing security pressures across Europe driving defence budget priorities.
Why now: Reports that climate funding may be diverted to defence have sparked debate over the government's spending priorities amid rising security tensions.
