Commentators in the UK are criticising the Labour government for reportedly cutting the heat pump subsidy to help fund increased defence spending. Critics argue the move is economically short-sighted and risks destroying a young heat pump industry, saying growth depends on renewables rather than arms production, and accusing Labour of contradicting its own growth agenda.
Why now: Reports that defence funding is being raised partly by slashing heat pump subsidies have sparked anger among climate and energy commentators.
