Global multidimensional poverty rises for first time since 2010
The United Nations Development Programme reports that global multidimensional poverty has increased for the first time since 2010, reversing more than a decade of progress. The finding suggests that overlapping deprivations in health, education and living standards are worsening worldwide, prompting concern among development experts about setbacks to poverty-reduction efforts.
Why now: A UN agency has released new data showing a reversal in long-term global poverty trends.
