A newly published book alleges that Russia and China are deliberately targeting vital undersea internet and communication cables, warning that such sabotage could disrupt global connectivity and, in a worst-case scenario, send societies back to the 'Dark Ages'. The claim is drawing attention amid growing concern in Western governments over the security of submarine cable infrastructure and recent incidents of suspected cable interference.
Why now: Rising geopolitical tensions and recent suspected sabotage of undersea cables have made the security of this infrastructure a hot topic.
