Column argues celebrities should not be pressed for political stances
Original: Column: Stop demanding celebrities take a stance
A new opinion column in The Daily Tar Heel argues that the public should stop demanding celebrities take a stance on political and social issues. The writer contends that fame does not equal expertise, and that pressuring stars to comment turns entertainment figures into reluctant spokespeople. The piece is part of a wider debate about whether public figures owe their audiences political statements.
