Christa Pike speaks after failed execution in Tennessee
Original: These were Christa Pike’s first words after failed execution
Christa Pike, the only woman on death row in Tennessee, survived a scheduled execution after what officials have called a failed or postponed procedure, and her first words afterward have been reported by Nashville outlet WSMV. Pike was convicted in 1996 for the murder of college classmate Colleen Slemmer. The reported remarks are drawing wide attention as debate over her eventual execution continues.
Why now: A botched or stayed execution of Tennessee's only female death row inmate is major breaking crime news.
