The Baltic states are lobbying the European Union to impose a bloc-wide ban on the transit of Russian grain, according to maritime news outlet Splash247. The push reflects ongoing efforts by Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to tighten restrictions on Russian goods moving through EU territory amid the war in Ukraine. Details of the proposal and EU response remain limited.
Why now: Ongoing EU deliberations over sanctions on Russian agricultural exports amid the Ukraine war keep the issue in the spotlight.
