Debate over a law banning filming people in public
Original: Ask HN: Would you support a law banning filming people in public?
A discussion is under way on whether filming strangers in public should be banned by law. Participants are weighing privacy concerns and the spread of smartphones against the role of cameras in journalism, accountability and everyday documentation, with views split over how such a ban could work in practice and what exemptions would be needed.
Why now: Privacy in public spaces has become a live concern as smartphones and viral sharing make covert filming commonplace.
