Canadian YouTuber tracked by police after building camera to monitor police cars

Original: Canadian YouTuber builds 'Flock-like' camera to exclusively track police vehicles, gets a visit from police — officers visit his home to express privacy concerns

A Canadian YouTuber built a licence-plate-style camera system, similar to Flock safety cameras, that exclusively tracks police vehicles rather than the public. Officers then visited his home, citing privacy concerns and arguing that anti-surveillance policies could allow details of active investigations to reach criminals. The story has drawn attention as an example of the tension between public and police surveillance, and of what critics call one-sided privacy enforcement.

Why now: People are debating the irony of police invoking privacy concerns against a citizen while supporting mass surveillance of the public.
