Putin dismisses UK threat over small boats and crime

Original: Putin says he doesn't fear the UK because, "they can't even stop rubber boats invading their country or foreign men rapi

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he does not fear the United Kingdom, claiming Britain cannot stop small boats crossing its borders and cannot protect its citizens from crime by foreign men. He also claimed the British people hate their leader. The remarks circulated widely among UK audiences, where immigration and Channel crossings remain highly charged political issues.

Why now: The inflammatory remarks touch directly on Britain's most contentious current political debate over illegal immigration and Channel crossings.
