Sweden and Finland join NATO nuclear deterrence exercise
Original: Sweden and Finland to participate in NATO nuclear deterrence exercise
Sweden and Finland are set to take part in a NATO nuclear deterrence exercise, a notable step for the two newest members of the alliance. Their involvement signals deepening integration into NATO's defence planning and reflects the shift in Nordic security policy since both countries abandoned decades of neutrality and joined the alliance in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
Why now: The participation of formerly non-aligned Sweden and Finland in nuclear deterrence drills marks a significant evolution in European security arrangements amid tensions with Russia.
