CDU accused of drifting toward AfD in Saxony-Anhalt

Original: Dass die vier fehlenden Stimmen für die AfD in Sachsen-Anhalt von der CDU kommen, überrascht kaum. CSU-Vize Manfred Webe

Criticism is mounting over claims that four missing votes for the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt came from the CDU. CSU vice-president Manfred Weber's recent statements are being cited as a sign of where the Union is heading. Commenters, including politician Sören Pellmann, argue the conservative Union is moving ever closer to the AfD instead of pursuing policies that serve ordinary people.

Why now: A potential CDU-AfD rapprochement at the state level raises fresh concerns about a breach of the political 'firewall' against the far right in Germany.
