Original: PS5 hack delivers native PS2 disc support and 4K upscaling where Sony refused to — after PS2 breakthrough, homebrew dev

A homebrew developer known as Modder Sword has released PS5SX2, a hack for the PlayStation 5 that enables native playback of PlayStation 2 game discs with 4K upscaling. The developer says support for PlayStation 3 discs is planned next. The project is drawing attention because it delivers backward-compatibility features Sony never offered on the console, reigniting debate about the company's refusal to support older disc formats and the growing capability of the PS5 homebrew scene.
