Sierra Space tests military-backed Ghost cargo pod for 90-minute orbital delivery

Original: U.S. military-backed cargo pod promises 90-minute orbital delivery anywhere on Earth, 10-ton Ghost vehicle gets first real-world test — Sierra Space drops radio and whiskey from 68,500 feet to test StarCraft-like supply drops

Sierra Space, with U.S. military backing, has run the first real-world test of its Ghost cargo vehicle, a roughly 10-ton pod designed to deliver cargo from orbit anywhere on Earth within about 90 minutes. In the test, the company dropped a radio and a bottle of whiskey from a balloon at 68,500 feet to simulate reentry and precision supply drops, drawing comparisons to a StarCraft-style logistics system.

Why now: The prospect of near-instant orbital cargo delivery anywhere on Earth is a striking military and commercial logistics development.
