Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has imposed emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, effectively suspending the provincial government. The move, reported by international outlets, means the provincial administration led from Peshawar is stripped of its powers, with federal authority taking over. It marks an unprecedented escalation in tensions between Islamabad and the province, and observers are closely watching for reactions from political parties and the courts.
Why now: Suspending an entire provincial government is a dramatic and rare constitutional step, drawing immediate national and international attention.
