New book challenges race-based narrative on refugee welcome

A new book from Dalhousie University researchers argues that the warm welcome many European countries gave Ukrainian refugees after Russia's 2022 invasion cannot be explained by race alone. The work examines why Europe's response to Ukrainians differed so sharply from its treatment of refugees from other conflicts, challenging what the authors call the 'race-only' interpretation of that disparity.
Why now: The book's argument about why Europe treated Ukrainian refugees differently from other groups is prompting debate in science and current affairs discussions.
