Original: ea

Richard Garriott, creator of the landmark Ultima role-playing series, says he will regain the rights to his franchise from Electronic Arts in 2027. The news has drawn attention from long-time fans and the games industry, as it opens the possibility of new Ultima entries or remakes under the original creator's control after decades of the series sitting largely dormant.

Why now: Regaining the rights to a classic gaming franchise raises expectations of new Ultima games and marks a notable shift in creator ownership.
