New Ali G Movie Slated for One-Weekend Theatrical Run Amid Backlash
Original: Unfunny Looking "Ali G" Movie Getting One Weekend in Theaters According to Ad, Amid Backlash from Theaters Over Racist Character
A new film featuring Sacha Baron Cohen's Ali G character is reportedly set for a single weekend in theaters, according to an advertisement, after exhibitors pushed back over criticism that the character is racist. The limited release plan has reignited debate about the 2000s comedy persona, with some calling the portrayal outdated and offensive while others defend it as satire.
Why now: Theaters' reported reluctance to book the film has turned the release into a controversy over whether the Ali G character remains acceptable.
