A UK-linked discussion is reviving calls to nationalise England's water industry, with a proposal to combine flood and drought responses into a dedicated climate change taskforce. The suggestion taps into ongoing public frustration over water companies' performance, sewage spills, leaks and billing, and how the privatised system copes with increasingly extreme weather. Similar arguments have circulated among campaigners and some politicians, though no government policy change has been announced.
Why now: Renewed public frustration with privatised water companies and extreme weather is prompting debate over nationalisation and climate policy.
