Surveillance company Flock is laying off staff following growing public backlash over its camera networks and data-sharing practices, according to Mother Jones. The report comes as cities and residents increasingly push back against the company's automated license plate readers, with privacy advocates arguing the systems enable mass tracking of drivers. The layoffs have fueled debate over whether public resistance is beginning to hurt the surveillance industry's business.
Why now: Ongoing public and local government backlash against Flock's surveillance networks is being linked to its layoffs, drawing attention from privacy advocates.
