Major US television networks were notified Friday that the Justice Department is examining whether they violated antitrust law when they suspended pool coverage of President Trump. The inquiry, reported by commentator Nonilex, has drawn sharp criticism online, with observers calling it an absurd use of the department against media outlets over editorial decisions about coverage.

Why now: The news lands amid ongoing concerns about the administration pressuring media companies, making the DOJ's antitrust probe into network coverage decisions immediately controversial.
