Trump proposes renaming ocean 'Ocean of Americas'
Original: Trump suggests ‘Ocean of Americas’ as new name for Atlantic or Pacific
President Donald Trump has suggested 'Ocean of Americas' as a possible new name for either the Atlantic or the Pacific, according to The Washington Post. The idea, floated without detailed implementation plans, adds to a series of naming and renaming proposals by the administration. Critics are likely to see it as symbolic nationalism, while supporters may read it as emphasizing hemispheric identity.
Why now: Trump's latest renaming suggestion is unusual and builds on his pattern of proposed name changes for geographic features.
