Don't Throw Away Your Old Phone — Build a Robot Instead
Makers are being encouraged to repurpose old smartphones into functioning robots instead of throwing them away. A project featured on Hackster.io shows how a retired phone can serve as a robot's brain, using its camera, sensors and processing power with a simple chassis and open-source software. The idea taps into growing interest in e-waste reduction and DIY robotics, giving discarded devices a second life as programmable machines.
Why now: Growing awareness of electronic waste and the popularity of DIY robotics projects are driving interest in reusing old smartphones.
