Trump says it is time for Ukraine to get a new president
Original: 'Time for Ukraine to get a new president', says Trump
Donald Trump has declared it is time for Ukraine to get a new president, a striking intervention in the politics of a country at war with Russia. The remark, carried by BBC News, is likely to fuel debate about US pressure on Ukrainian leadership and elections during wartime. It will be read in Kyiv and allied capitals as a pointed challenge to Volodymyr Zelensky's position.
Why now: A US president publicly calling for a change of leadership in a wartime allied country is an unusual and highly consequential statement.
